THE MASKS FALL AND WE LOOK BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF THE PERFORMING ARTS.

With its theme ‘World of the Stage’, EXEMPLAmünchen 2025 shows how indispensable the performing arts are. From stage sets and costumes to masks, visitors can take a look behind the scenes at lively workshops and marvel at the intricate detail involved in creating them. Let yourself be transported to another world and feel the magic of the theatre at the ‘Handwerk & Design’.

THREE EXCITING AREAS PROVIDE A GLIMPSE BOTH IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND THE SCENES

Stage as a building

‘Stage as a building’ presents outstanding projects such as the acoustic models by Georg Ackermann GmbH, stage constructions by Bühnenbau Wertheim and the electrical engineering and control systems by Zeiler-Technik GmbH. Virtual exhibits from the Deutsches Theatermuseum and the Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft illustrate stage history and architecture.

Stage design and scenery

‘Stage design and scenery’ provides insights into the work of the Bavarian State Opera and the Munich Kammerspiele, which create impressive stage worlds with technical precision. Marionette and paper theatre complete the show and demonstrate filigree craftsmanship in smaller stage formats.

Costume and Mask

‘Costume and Mask’ allows visitors to experience at first hand how costumes and masks are created. The Accademia Teatro alla Scala, the August Everding Theatre Academy and the Fachschule für Gewandmeister*innen are represented. In addition, four international mask artists, including NOH mask carver Kitazawa Hideta and jewellery artist Rasa Vilcinskaite, will present their unique works.
